Ontario is in southwestern San Bernardino County, in the Inland Empire, 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Ontario Mills is the largest outlet mall in California, Toyota Arena seats 11,000, and the city is a logistics hub for freight moving out of the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports. The airport, Ontario International, is two miles east of downtown Ontario and serves the Inland Empire and the east side of greater Los Angeles.
The airport’s route map doesn’t list a nonstop between Indianapolis and Ontario, and every itinerary Google Flights priced on October 14 connected once, most of them in Denver. Frontier had the cheapest fare at $193 round trip, for a week leaving November 7, for two days leaving November 4 and for three days leaving December 5, with a late-evening landing each time. Southwest through Denver, American through Dallas and Delta through Atlanta all sold at $377 on those dates. Los Angeles on the same November 7 to 14 dates was $232 on Frontier and $269 on the American nonstop, so Ontario was the cheaper way into the Los Angeles area that week.
