Indianapolis to Cancun, Mexico (IND → CUN)

Cancun is the Hotel Zone, a long strip of beach hotels on an island that juts into the Caribbean, with the city itself on the mainland and the airport about twenty minutes away by car. Most people who fly in don’t stay put: Isla Mujeres is a short ferry from Puerto Juárez, Playa del Carmen is an hour and twenty minutes down the coast on the ADO bus, and Tulum and the cenotes along that highway make an easy day. The water is the point, and from Indianapolis it’s usually a one-connection trip, with a Delta nonstop showing up on some dates.

There’s a nonstop between Indianapolis and Cancun, and the airport’s route map lists it as year-round. On the January 2 departure we read, Southwest, American and Delta each had a nonstop going out, in round trips from $505 that connected on the way home. The cheapest fares on every date connected once, through Atlanta on Delta and Frontier, through Charlotte, Dallas–Fort Worth or Miami on American, and through Chicago, Houston or Washington Dulles on United. The lowest round trip we priced on October 9 is $374, for five days leaving December 5, and the lowest we’ve recorded on this route is $230, from January 2024.
